Velasco Vitali

Born in Bellano (Lc) in 1960, Velasco lives and works in Milan.
A painter and sculptor with art in his veins, closely associated with the Nuova Officina Milanese, where he made his debut in the late ’80s, Velasco has experimented with a variety of different materials and techniques. His work focuses on particular subjects: sails predominate in his paintings, while packs of dogs are featured in his best-known sculptures.
He has an important link with Sicily, where he has worked on numerous projects in the new millennium, including the exhibition Extramoenia at Palazzo Belmonte Riso in 2005. In 2010 he presented the project Sbarco in Milan, in which four big sculptures were installed in four symbolic locations in the city: Piazza Duca d’Aosta (across from the central railway station), and the Foyer, Last Hall and Honour Courtyard at Palazzo Reale. In 2011 he participated in the Biennale in Venice, and in 2013 he opened the Foresta Rossa exhibition at the Triennale in Milan.
